Hello, I’m Matt Jarvis, born and grown in the UK, technically enhanced in Holland, now based in London.
I’ve been wondering what to call what I do as it’s many things, but I think it could be summed up as being an ‘unconventional media architect’ if you pardon the expression. I generally make things with data and am examining human communication with technology. When working on projects, it excites me to think of how we can embed entertainment and information, along with humour, imagination and other valuable natural human traits that create their own character, and the way in which these can educate and promote wellbeing as well as being fun.
I earned a Masters of science in Media Technology at Universiteit Leiden, The Netherlands and am currently undertaking a PhD at the Queen Mary University of London’s Media and Arts Technology Doctoral Training Centre.
I do have limited availability for nice and interesting projects. 😀
I used to run an open digital lab at Site Gallery and have worked with over 200 artists to create new media, photography and installation based contemporary work.
I have also provided business support and consultancy to many local businesses in the Cultural Industries.
My awards include £50,000 development award from MELT (a programme of The Culture Company working with the BBC, Channel 4, Orange, PACT and Screen Yorkshire and is funded by Yorkshire Forward, Objective 1 South Yorkshire and Arts Council England) a British Telecom award for “Most innovative use of Broadband Technologies in Yorkshire”.
I’m social in these spaces…
